One Small Thing

Hi! My name is Kaili. I am a grief counselor at Frederick Health Hospice, and I also teach thanatology (the study of death and dying) at Hood College. I have a passion for suicide research and prevention, and for working with grieving children and adolescents.
My decision to become a grief counselor was informed, in part, by my own experiences with grief. I have lost a number of friends and family members throughout my life, and I feel that if I had received better support when I was grieving, I could have been spared from a lot of unnecessary pain. So, now, I try my best to help others heal, and to give the kind of support I wish I had received.
Some of the things that I’ve found to be most helpful when I am grieving are: sharing about my grief with others, writing (I am a big fan of poetry), and doing mindfulness-based activities, like yoga and meditation.
